![]() Steam Deck review: the best portable games console ever- Reader’s Feature Exploration is always rewarded If you can’t get behind them the easiest way to get them to open up, and expose their weak spot, is to shoot the legs of their zombie host so that they stagger and the ‘arms’ of the head crab will open for a moment and you can get your shot in. They’re not in the game that much but they’re an interesting enemy as they’re invulnerable unless you shoot the glowing orange spot on their front or back. We’re not sure what these new enemies are called yet, as they weren’t in the original, but they look like a cross between a head crab from Half-Life and the parasites from Resident Evil 4. Before you use it, try and make sure you dodge in a useful direction, you don’t want to jump out of Nemesis’ way just to end up right in the path of a zombie. ![]() You do have to use it with caution though as you’re vulnerable for a second or two after using it, so it’s not something you can afford to keep using in quick succession. Jill is more agile than Leon or Claire from the last game and has a very useful dodge, that’s perfect for getting out of the way of Nemesis and other creatures. Red barrels will also work on Nemesis, although they still won’t kill him or do any permanent damage. However, you’ve got to wait for them all to be in range, so it’s well worth using yourself as bait and running around to get them all together before you pull the trigger. This is where explosive red barrels come in handy, as they’re quite common in the streets of Raccoon City and can easily take out three or four zombies at once. Resident Evil 3 often has a lot more zombies in one area at time than Resident Evil 2, and that combined with Nemesis running around can cause some real problems – not just in terms of them getting you but you running out of ammo. If you see a corpse on the floor and you didn’t put it there, and it doesn’t do anything when you stab it, there’s a very good chance it’s going to get up at some point, so steer well clear. The exception is zombies that only get up for special story reasons. It’s hard to kill them with the knife (although it is possible) but just one stab will reveal whether they’re faking or not. To prevent this, always stab zombies on the floor to check if they’re dead. They’ll almost always get back up again and often just as you’re walking past. It’s usually not that hard to down a zombie, but just because they’ve fallen to the ground doesn’t mean they’re actually dead (or however you want to phrase it). They’re also very useful for dealing with fast moving zombie dogs, so bear that in mind. You’ll see sparks of electricity shooting out from them and if you shoot them they’ll paralyse any enemy within a fairly wide area, including Nemesis. The best thing to do is to mind your surroundings and look out for little electricity generators that are dotted around in many locations. The problem with combat in Resident Evil 3 is that Nemesis cannot be defeated through normal gameplay and while zombies can there’s usually too many of them and not enough ammo. When you know he’s around take time to plan your route via the map, when you’re in a safe room, and whatever you do don’t run around aimlessly. If you can’t just run, perhaps because you’re being blocked by zombies, then you can attack him, but he’ll absorb a lot of ammo before he drops and even then he’ll only be fazed for a few minutes, so you still need to run. If he does get you then jab the ‘X’ or ‘A’ button to get out of his grasp more quickly. The best thing to do is simply run away, although Nemesis will often jump in front of you or catch you from behind with his tentacles. That presents a problem because he’s often wandering around the game world looking for you, and will follow you anywhere except the safe rooms and certain key areas – and even then he’ll still hang around outside. The short answer is you can’t, not under normal circumstances. How do I kill Nemesis in Resident Evil 3?
